EDUA 5624 Conflict Resolution: Elem Teacher

In a world where violent conflict is abundant on TV, in video games, on the web, and even in the news, children need to know why resolving conflicts peacefully is important and how to do so. Teachers need to be prepared to help children develop the self-esteem, sense of security, empathy, and skills necessary to be able to work out differences with others peacefully in any setting.

In this course the teacher will learn an effective, easy to use conflict resolution model for the classroom. This model describes how to teach students to: assess their emotion and gauge its intensity; be angry while remaining calm and in control of their behavior; listen actively; admit fault; brainstorm solutions; and, make acceptable decisions. Furthermore, this course provides specific targeted language for each age group so the teacher will know exactly what to say and how to say it based on developmental stage. Ready-to-use conflict resolution activities will bring the conflict resolution program alive in the classroom and make learning fun and meaningful. Ultimately this course will help the teacher build a classroom culture that helps defuse tension and promote emotionally stronger and happier children.
